to "Miss Minnie":
She tried with all her might to help
me understand Spanish
verbs....nada....pronunciation was
fine....but verbs are where it
ended...she was benevolent  in
giving me a C-.......The trips to San
Antonio and the Casa Rio will
always be remembered.  Bon
Voyage, Miss Minnie.

Loved getting your note!

Did want to tell you that Dicksy
and I visited Ray Bell shortly
before his death...came bearing
gift...a six pack of Bud...and bless
his heart...drank with us...what
courage and hospitality he
showed.  Was heart-breaking!

Jan and Len's Family Reunion in the
San Francisco Bay Area
Wonderful visit with both my kids, Andrea and Jon, and Jon's
extended family, in San Rafael. Beautiful weather. I forgot digital
camera. More photos later. Several highlights:
Those brown hills that look like camels
you want to pet...
Hearing that the GPS receiver we gave
Jon's family for Christmas was the best
gift we'd ever given, and finding the
geocache we were looking for. Try it!
You'll like it! It's like a high-tech
treasure hunt.

dawdling in Dolores Park,
lunching at the Dolores
Park Cafe (a real find),
driving by the house where
I spent my first 3 years, and
the delightful early birthday
celebration orchestrated
by my daughter-in-law,
Anne.
7/7/07: Sue and Brad are off to
the Grand Canyon.
Family photos coming when they get home.

Strange today - I had lunch in
Johnson City and we were dis-
cussing Lady Bird and the fact that
she was on her death bed. We
talked about how the motorcade
would pass by where we were
eating on the way to Stonewall to
the Johnson Family Cemetery. A few
hours later, the news bulletin that
she had passed.

Of course we have had nothing on
local TV here but her and Lyndon's
life together. Her funeral will be
held at Riverbend, my old church,
and then on Sunday the motorcade
will leave the Capitol  and head for
Stonewall.  If you have never seen
the family cemetery, let me know
and I will take some pics and send
you. I am going to CA on Sat. so I will
miss the celebrations of her life.

I will go to the cemetery when I get
home. There will be hundreds of
people that come in from around the
world for her funeral.....the streets
from Austin to Stonewall will be
lined with people.  She was larger
than life around here and will be
missed.....Howard (Judy's brother)
teaches at the LBJ School of Public
Affairs and his office is right next to
the LBJ Library. It is already hard to
park there because of being on the
campus of Texas, so unless you take
a bus, it will be hard to go to the
viewing. I did go see Barbara
Jordan there and Lady Bird and Lucy
Baines walked right up to John and
me and said a few words!  Made our
day...j
