Jan and Len's Sojourn in Spain: Introduction
September 6 - 20, 2007
In 2000, Len and I made my long-awaited trip
to southern Spain, visiting the Alhambra at
Granada, the Costa del Sol from Malaga to
Gibraltar (with forays inland), Sevilla,
Cordoba, and Toledo. It was a fabulous trip,
with warm, welcoming people, delectable
new foods to try, awesome architectural
delights, and beautiful scenery. And I got to
practice my Spanish! If you must make a
choice, definitely go the southern route as
we did in 2000.

This time, Sept. 6-20, 2007, we chose to limit
our driving time: We chose Barcelona to see
the renowned Temple of the Sagrada Familia
(Holy Family) by Antonio Gaudi, spending a
week in the city. We soon learned that the
autonomous province of Catalonia (in the
northeast corner of the country) prides itself
on its language, Catalan, which seems a
meld of Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
Fortunately, we were always able to make ourselves understood with English or Spanish.
After Barcelona we rented a car for a week, tootling around
Catalonia, Andorra, France, and the Costa
Brava.
For those who prefer the mini-version, I'll put a few photos of the highlights of our trip on this page,
with links to more detailed versions and lots of photos.
