Sammie's Page
Sammie's energy level is a bit low, as she has fibromyalgia and
diabetes. She readily agreed to a phone interview instead of writing up
her bio herself.
Sammie was born in a house off Main Street in Belton on February
21, 1942, so she's a true "native daughter."

After high school, she went to Brownwood to cosmetology school,
then returned to Belton and worked in salons there and in Salado.
Fletcher, her "steady" from Temple, went to flight reservation
school out of state. They were married on May 6, 1961, and made
their home in Dallas. Right after the Bay of Pigs incident, Fletcher
was called up to serve at Fort Polk, Louisiana, in the National Guard.
He went on to make his career with Braniff Airways.

Their only son, Kevin, was born in 1965. He's a bachelor; lives not
far away in Arlington, TX; and works for American Airlines.

Competing with Kevin for Sammie's and Fletcher's affections is their
five-pound, white toy poodle, Princess. Sammie promises to send a
photo soon of their darling. When I mentioned hearing that poodles
are good pets for people with allergies, she said that a relative
who's a vet says that both poodles and Maltese are hypoallergenic.
They are both really cute dogs.

One of the benefits of working for an airline is the opportunity to
travel. Sammie and Fletcher have traveled in Europe, particularly
enjoying London and Paris. They had a memorable vacation on
Paradise Island, Bahamas, where they saw Oprah's show at the Hotel
Atlantis. Fletcher also toured Machu Pichu, the ancient Inca city in
Peru.

You may remember Sammie's sister, Nora Ann. She now lives in
Marietta, Georgia. Sister Pauline, who had a beauty shop in Belton
for many years, is now in a nursing home in Harker Heights.

Sammie's hobbies include making ornaments for Christmas gifts,
needlework (counted cross-stitch and crochet), and reading. She
likes books on Texas history, Bible study, biographies of painters,
and mysteries by Sue Grafton and Fay Kellerman. She also likes to
go antiquing and shopping in thrift stores. She collects "Precious
Moments" figurines, buttons, pens, and teddy bears. Her all-time
favorite movie is
To Kill a Mockingbird, starring Gregory Peck.

One of her favorite quotes is "Dust is a protective covering for
furniture." I like this woman!

When I asked whom in particular would she like to connect with, she
quickly said, "Linda Stark."

She looks forward to seeing everyone again at our 50th.
