Born in Holland, Texas, on October 12, 1941, I
moved to Belton when I was 4. I attended Southwest
Elementary, along with several others in our high
school class.
After graduation, I went to Austin to attend Isabell
Powell University of Cosmetology. I worked at
Roberta's Beauty Salon in Temple from 1960 to 1962,
when I married Bill and became a stay-at-home mom.
We have two children, a boy, now 44, and a girl, 40.
In 1970 we moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where we
lived for 7 years. We then moved to San Angelo,
Texas, where we've lived ever since. Bill was the
plant manager for Herschfeld Steel, and I worked for
Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson Company, for 25
years. Bill was forced to retire in 2000 after having
colon cancer. I retired in 2001.
Fortunately, Bill has been cancer-free for 8 years.
My sister Linda passed away in 2002 from brain
cancer. We spent about 11 years maintaining a
support website for cancer patients.
We are now pretty much home bodies. We do get
out and do a lot of walking.
Our son retired from the Marine Corps after 22
years and is now in Civil Service. He and his family
are in Camp Fuji, Japan, where he is the civilian
supply officer of the base. He has three children.
His oldest is 19, and now in the Marine Corps like
his dad. Our son's other two are girls, still in school.
Our daughter, a pharmacy assistant, lives here in
town. She has two children, a boy 8 years old and a
girl 1 year old.
On October 29 of this year we will celebrate our 45th
Wedding Anniversary.
My favorite jobs were doing hair and making people
happy. Working for J & J. to put out quality surgical
supplies was a very important job, and I enjoyed it
very much.
We have no travel plans. We occasionally make it to
Belton...all my family is buried there. I'm the only
surviving member of my original family.
We're enjoying our little tiny toy poodle, "Baby Girl."
She's 6 years old and weighs 4 pounds. She is the
boss of this house.
ha ha.
I like mysteries. I enjoy Mary Higgins Clark.
As for TV, we like the old movies and old sitcoms,
and I enjoy Lifetime movies. I also like some of the
games on the Game Show network, and I enjoy the
Animal Planet and Discovery Channel.
Love and hugs,
Mary Ann

2008: Mary Ann writes, "A picture we took while my son and his family were here. Our
grandson was not here with them...he is a Marine like his Daddy and is stationed in
Japan. Pictured standing is our son Terry, his youngest, Kristina, his middle child
Michelle, and his wife Ikuko. Bill and I are seated...and of course Baby Girl."
Terry is a retired Marine and is now in Civil Service. He is a GS-12 and is the Civilian
Supply Officer of Camp Fuji, Japan. They have two more years there and will then be back
in the States to their home in San Angelo. Terry met Ikuko when he was stationed in
Okinawa. She is from a little island not far from Okinawa. She was attending college there
and he was teaching an English class at night when they met.
Oct. 29, 2008: Mary Ann and Bill enjoy their 46th Anniversary Dinner.
