Lou's Page
Jan's note: I called Lou and got this wonderful interview.
Born at home in Belton one January 13, Lou is another
"native daughter." We are very lucky to have her with us, as
she is a breast cancer survivor of 12 years. She sends this
message to all women: "Get your mammogram every year!"

Right after high school, she went to decompress on the
beach for 2 months at her sister's home in Florida, then
came back to work at the "old" Scott and White Hospital.
Later, she moved to Austin and worked at the Capitol
National Bank, where Will also worked and became
president. A move to Dallas had her working at Gulf Atlantic
Insurance. She moved home when her dad was diagnosed
with cancer, then returned to work at the new Scott and
White Hospital in the audit department. It just so happened
that Charles' aunt also worked at the hospital, and she
introduced him to Lou when he came to live in the area.
They hit it off right away, and were married on July 28, 1966.

Charles and Lou have three children (left), Sandy, David,
and Brian, and celebrated their 41st anniversary on July 28,
2007.

Sandy (previous page) has two children, Luke, 22, and
Rachel, 15. Luke and his wife Apryl have made Charles and
Lou great-grandparents with their baby boy, Casey, who's
3-1/2 months old now in August 2007.

Brian's fiancee Alta with daughter, Tayci

Brian  lives in Hutto, Texas. He and Alta will marry in October
2007. Alta has a darling 7-year-old, Tayci, whom Lou and
Charles have already made welcome as a granddaughter.

(Their grand-kids call them "Grandmommy" and Grampa,"
except for Tayci, who calls them "Mama-Lou" and
"Papa-Lou." Go figure!)

lives in Arlington, Virginia. I, Jan, am
looking forward to meeting him when Lou
next comes for a visit, since I live in
Arlington, too.

Lou and Charles have done some traveling. They lived in St.
Croix, Virgin Islands, for a year while Charles taught welding for
Hess Oil. It was there that Brian was born. They liked the
laid-back, island pace. They've traveled in
California---Sacramento
and the San Francisco area---and toured many of the historic
places in Washington, DC. They also enjoyed a 10-day cruise to
Hawaii and to Fannin Island, where the TV show
Gilligan's Island
was filmed. Lou said, "Fannin Island was the most beautiful place
I've ever seen."

Lou's favorite job was working as a teacher's resource aide for
grades 1 through 5 at Midway School for 17 years. When retired
in 1996, Charles gave her a riding lawn mower as a retirement
gift. When he retired the next year, she gave it right back to him!
Lou likes to read novels, do water aerobics at the gym, and visit
the family. (She is the youngest of 8 siblings.) Charles enjoys
wood-working, and Lou paints his crafts.

It was just great catching up with Lou after all these years. I'm
sure we're all looking forward to seeing her at our 50th.
