I was born in Ft. Sill, OK, one August 2. As a child of an Army
soldier, I had the opportunity to live and start my school
years in Kyoto, Japan. I have many wonderful memories of
spending 3 years there. We were later sent to Ft. Hood,
Texas, where I went to 3rd and 4th grades. My parents
bought their first house in Belton so we moved there for my
5th and half of my 6th-grade year. I was in Miss Cornelison’s
class with Buster, Denny George, and Robert Lee and we all
became close friends. In December of my 6th-grade year, I
moved away to Giessen, Germany where I finished 6th, 7th
and half of 8th grade, never dreaming I would ever move
back to Belton, Texas, but fate intervened! Robert Lee and I
wrote back and forth the entire time I was in Germany (I still
have his letters!) and the rest is history! I moved back to
Belton in January of my 8th-grade year and graduated with
the rest of ya’ll!

My brother Howard, class of ‘58, is a retired Army General
and lives in Austin. My younger sister, Linda ‘70, lives in the
Marble Falls area, and my younger brother, Robert ‘63,
passed away in 1991 after having a second heart attack
while on a business trip.

John (Butch - ’58) and I married 2 days after high school
graduation on the 26th. He graduated from Temple Jr.
College on May 27th, and on May 28th we were married.
Busy week…….but then we got real busy and became the
parents of 5 bouncing baby boys!!! We are very proud of the
men they have become.

We moved to Austin in the summer of 1960 to attend THE
UNIVERSITY where John graduated in 1962 with his BBA. He
went to Texas during the day and I went to business school
at night. What a change after being in high school, plus
adding a baby in the mix. After graduation his first job was in
Houston with Peat, Marwick and Mitchell accounting firm
and 9 months later switched to Anderson, Clayton Foods
where he would work for the next 14 years. They moved us
to Scottsdale, AZ, 1965-1969; then back to Houston for 2
years; on to Dallas (we lived in Plano) for 4 years. John
changed jobs (1975) at that time and we moved back to
Houston to work for Geo Space. (Moving in and out of
Houston 3 times was enough!) After 4 years there, we heard
Austin calling us home.…John went to work for a large
company here as chief financial officer, but after 2 years he
decided to go to work for himself. We lived in Westlake for
15 years and after the boys all graduated from high school,
we moved out west of Austin near Spicewood, where I live
on 10 acres next door to our son Mike and his family.

While living in Plano John and I took up swimming, and
swam on master’s teams in Plano, Houston and Austin for
more than 10 years. Our boys all swam on teams and John
Howard was on the Aggie swim team while at Texas A&M.
We later took up cycling for many years.

I received my real estate license while living in Houston and
did that for a few years. I worked doing other things also,
mostly part time, but I enjoyed being home with the boys the
most. When James, our youngest was in middle school, I
went to work for a local physician as his private
secretary/medical transcriptionist and worked there for 13
years before retiring and moving to the country…..Doing
genealogy has always been a big part of my life and I
continue to do that occasionally. John and I have been in
what seems to be every courthouse, battlefield and
cemetery across the south. My latest hobby is mowing and
trying to start that darned weed eater….(actually I love
working outside).

We have 5 sons, 9 grandchildren, (6 boys and 3 girls) and
one great-grandson. John Howard, the oldest and our Aggie
engineer, lives in Round Rock with his wife Raquel. She has
one daughter, Samantha (11) that lives in Wichita Falls. John
is the Project Manager for a section of the new tollway here
in the Austin area. He has 2 children, JJ (23) and Stephanie
(20) and they live in the Arlington area. Stephanie and her
husband John are the proud parents of my first great-
grandchild, Preston Lee. I now go by the beautiful names
"G-Ma" and "GG-ma."

Our 2nd son Robert Lee, lives in Fredericksburg with his
wife Kim and has worked for the post office for 17 years. He
was previously in the Army for 6 years. They have no
children, only dogs!

Michael and his family, wife Tanya, sons Michael Lee (19)
and Alex (16), live next door to me and Mike has his own
construction company (home building). Alex goes to Lake
Travis High School (State Football Champs 2007) and Mikey
works for his dad and is into film making.

Steven lives near us and he and Shannon have 2 sons,
Anthony (15) and Jacob (8) and Steve works for Michael in
the construction business.

James and his wife Theresa live in Marble Falls and have 2
children, Akasha (13), a Marble Falls cheerleader, and Seth
(11). James works for Mike also. I have been very lucky as
Seth and Akasha have been the 2 grandchildren that I have
been able to keep on the weekends, summers, and
holidays. All the grandkids have had that opportunity, but
these two just seem to be here more often!

John passed away from a massive heart attack on June 27,
2005 here at home while on his riding mower. (He loved that
thing!) We were married for 45 years. Of course, life
changes for one at that point, but I am fortunate to live
close to my boys and see 3 of them almost everyday. John
and I traveled lots during our years together and I continue
to travel some. Last year I went to Port Aransas, California,
Massachusetts, Florida, and North Carolina, and ended the
year with a 2-week cruise to the Southern Caribbean.

BUT, with all my travels around the world, my journey with
the Class of 1960 has been the most exciting! We were so
fortunate to have grown up in a special place and time and
were able to make such wonderful and close friends. When
I talk to my friends about our class, they are always
amazed…. I have been honored by each of you for letting
me do the “class reunions.” Always a challenge, but always
so much fun…..thanks to each of you.

And, thanks to Denny George for teaching me how to drive
a stick shift car in the park on that one-way bridge by the
Canteen! It only took a million hours and a zillion laughs for
“clutch” to finally get it!

Shirlene has been such a loyal friend and has always been
there for me when I needed someone these last few
years…..she always has my room ready (the couch!) when I
need it! Thank you. And, Robert Lee - thanks for always
being there to listen and laugh at my ups and downs. In
1996, Lou, Charles, John and I took a 2-week car trip to
South Carolina. Now that was a trip, as the 4 of us shared
the same motel/hotel room! You all should try it! Great
memories. Most of you I have seen and/or spoken to over
the years and it has been a real pleasure! Thanks to you,
Jan, for our little website, and all the smiles and joys it
brings to each of us daily……….

GO TIGERS! CLASS of 1960!

I have nine grandchildren, and
most of them are close by, so
they keep me busy most of the
time. I live between Austin and
Marble Falls out in the country
and love it here, but I am finding
out how hard it is to keep this
place up. I would love to move to
Marble Falls at some point. I
guess we are all 64 now, and
some are probably getting ready
to turn 65! Can you believe that!
Our class was so special, and
each of you has played an
important part in my life. Thank
you for that!

We were all acting silly on Christmas Eve.  John  was so
proud of these boys, I should say men, of his!

7/20/07: Judy writes from California:

My cousin Karen and I went to Santa
Monica market yesterday - what a neat
thing.  Food and flower vendors were all
over a couple of downtown streets.  The
produce was just beautiful, so we bought
some large peaches to have last night.
Their market is every Wednesday till 1:30
and then they have to be off the streets.
From there we went to Malibu and the
beach and had lunch at Paradise Cove
Restaurant.  Kinda pricy out here!  But it
was so good.

We came home via Sunset Strip which ran
thru Brentwood (O.J. fame), Beverly Hills,
(people were selling star maps all over the
place) and then on through Hollywood and
home.  We left Malibu at 4:30 and didn't get
home till 7:45.  The traffic is just what they
show on television - gridlocked!  Every
freeway, every side road - what a mess to
have to drive that every single day!  We
visited Rodeo Drive on Monday and San
Juan Capistrano on Tuesday.

It was so cool in Santa Monica yesterday, a
light jacket, or sweatshirt would have been
good.  Nights are around 60 and days in the
85 degree range. They say it is going to
start getting hotter this next week.   Today
we did girly things, had our nails done,
went to the movies to see Evening with
Meryl Streep and Vanessa
Redgrave.....great show!  Tomorrow we are
going to the Nixon Library and then have
dinner at Knotts Berry Farm.  Then on
Saturday I will fly home to Austin. A very
fun, enjoyable week!  Judy

Also, John's brother Tom and his wife Verda, had the new

Duncanville.  Tom has been the head band director there for
30+ years and Verda, the middle school director for the same
amount of time.  What a beautiful thing!
