July '08: PawPaw teaches granddaughter Rachel how to
fish at Rockport. '09: Frank and Rachel went fishing nearly
every day.  Every time you drop your line in, you catch
SOMETHING, great for young, impatient fishermen.
We
also celebrated our 46th anniversary and Frank's 69th
birthday while we were there.  Can you believe it!!

3-month old baby. I learned quickly to appreciate what a
wonderful country we have and how much we have to be
grateful for.

The next years were spent raising our daughter and son,
who is a lawyer in practice with Frank in Killeen, and who is
the father of our only grandchild Rachel. I've happily been a
homebody for many years and was lucky to be free to take
care of Frank's family and mine for many years when they
needed a great deal of help. After 40 years of living in the
same house, we just recently moved to a wonderful house
out on a ridge overlooking Lake Stillhouse. I got to make
the plans for every inch and decorate it just like I wanted
while sweet Frank just grimaced and signed the checks.

We discovered tennis around 1980 and have been fairly
avid since then, playing two or three times a week, mostly
doubles and mixed doubles. We've traveled to many places
to play and watch tennis, including twice to Wimbledon. We
intended to keep traveling, as we  loved the Greek islands
and Italy so much, but when our last "baby" came into our
lives, we either stayed home or took her with us. This
isn't the grandchild, whom we adore, but a 4-pound Papillon
who has absolutely captured our hearts. She is so cute and
smart and loving and has brought us a lot of joy and fun.

Frank has retired once, but it didn't "take" and now they've
hired a new lawyer (fresh out of school) and he's hoping at
least to slow down. We have a tiny condo on the coast at
Rockport (where I am now and where my family has spent
vacations for 65 years), and he hopes to spend more time
here fishing and on the golf course. I read a lot, enjoy
classical music, walk several miles a day, and try to get
my new yard going. Being married to Frank is the best,
happiest, smartest thing I ever did, as he is everything I
could ever want a man to be.

As for my favorite teachers, I guess that I also enjoyed and
learned a lot the year with Mrs. Johnson. I appreciated
working on the yearbook and getting to go to the
Shakespearean plays at UT that the sponsors took us to. I
agree with Bob that Mr. Jones and Mr. Anthony were such
nice people who provided help over and above the call of
duty, and I would add Joe Wilson (Algebra I) to that list. My
favorite teacher, though, was my mother, who taught me to
love words and reading and just about everything else I
needed to know. I smile when I read what others say about
Mrs. Minnie. She saw very quickly that our class was a "lost
cause" and really expected (and got) almost nothing from
us.

Thanks, Jan, for doing this wonderful web page and thanks
also to Judy PS for being the center of communication for
all of us. She was a great help last summer when we hosted
the reunion at our house.

Now I've written my little piece and want to hear from
Jimmie and Lou and Betty and George and Shep and Linda
and Gale and Dicksy and Dennis and Dale and Calvin and
Jane and Richard and Sammie and everyone else I can't
think of right this minute. I'll look forward to seeing all of
you.

Jan, you were always so creative! It's good to see that some
things don't change. The site is so imaginative and fun.
Thanks again!

Judy

PS I have a nice memory of R.H. Owens. (See

I've put off writing because summing up almost
50 years seems like such a daunting task...but
here goes!

After high school I went to UT and got my
degree in 3 years. Frank and I had been dating
almost 5 years and we were very ready to be
married, although he still had 2 more years of
law school there. I taught English and history
for several years before and after we moved to
Harker Heights, which, at that time was just a
tiny town near Killeen which my father-in-law
had helped to found. Vietnam was raging and
Uncle Sam was wanting Frank, so he
volunteered for the Air Force and we spent the
next 3 years in Albuquerque and Taiwan, where
we lived in very primitive conditions with a

She wrote: "Thanks to everyone who took the time to
send me good wishes.  The hat is a 20-year tradition
for whoever is celebrating.  Rachel carried the cake
from the next room while the rest of us held our
breath."

La Quinta Resort in Indian Wells, California
March 2011: Frank and I just spent 5 glorious days in Indian Wells, CA.  We went for the
pro tennis tournament there, and it was a near perfect trip.  Everywhere you looked,
the scene was much like this at the La Quinta resort!  I've never seen so many flowers
and such gorgeous landscaping.  Beautiful waterfalls and fountains are just
everywhere, it seemed.  We got to see all of the top men and women players, although
sitting in the 90 degree heat for many, many hours got just a bit uncomfortable.  We've
been to this tourney many times but not in the past few years, since we added Cosette
and Kitty to our family.  Happily, our son and family volunteered to baby sit for us, so I
felt OK about leaving (although I still had to have a daily report).  It was a great
getaway from the brown grass and humidity here, and now I'm fired up to plant
something!
