Jimmie Nell's Page
When I was born---on March 3, 1942, at King's Daughters Hospital in
Temple, I lived on Pearl Street in Belton. The reason I was named Jimmie
was that my Uncle Jim (that was his given name, not James) wanted me
to be named after him. He was killed in WWII and so I became Jimmie
Nell. Then after my Dad got home from World War II we bought a farm in
Salado, Texas. I must say I dearly loved Salado and the farm and still
have very fond memories of those years.

My brother Harold was three years older than me, and we both attended
our first years of elementary school in Salado at the old red brick school
house. I attended first through third grades in Salado. Guess who I
attended those three years in Salado with---Dicksy. Dicksy and I both
moved to Belton and began school in Belton. I started to Tyler in the
fourth grade and Dicksy was at Southwest, so we were not together
again until junior high.

We bought a house at 930 East 13th Street, and that is where I grew up
through the rest of my years at Belton. I lived next door to Sharon
Miksch (who was a grade below us). Sharon and I became best buddies
and still remain close. Sharon is a very dear and sweet individual and I
was lucky to have had the opportunity of living next to her.

After high school, I attended Durham's Business School in Waco. It was a
nine-month course and I finished it in six months. You see, our high
school education was extremely good, and I really should have gone on
to college instead of going to the business school. However, later
through life I attended Central Texas and Blinn College.

Well enough with all of that! I worked in Austin for a couple of years,
then moved to Dallas,  where I worked for many years. In 1964 I married,
and in 1968 I gave birth to our first son, Richard "Scott" (named after
both grandparents), and in 1971, gave birth to our second son, Steven
Mark. The best things that ever happened to me were the births of my
two sons. I was seven months pregnant with Scott when we got word
that Harold, my brother, was killed in Viet Nam. The family was never the
same after that.

We moved from Dallas to Belton, and my husband Jim finished school at
UT. We moved back to Dallas and later to Belton.  We then moved to
Killeen for a short time, before we moved to Germany for
three-and-a-half years. The boys and I were alone a lot in Germany and
we just became German---we went to their church, attended their
weddings and funerals, and just became part of the community. Scott
remembers a lot from those years, as he was older. When moving back
from Germany, we moved to Harker Heights. My sons finished school in
the Killeen school system. It was so nice living close to Judy ER. Her son
Burt and Scott graduated from high school together. It was wonderful
having Judy close by.

In 1991 I moved to College Station and worked in there until I landed a
job at King's Daughters Hospital (Bill St. was instrumental in getting me
the interview for the very job that I wanted at KDH). I lived in Temple for
a while, then moved to Salado (where I still have my duplex today).
However, I love the view at Lake Belton and when the condos went in, I
purchased a condo at the Lake.

Scott is now married to Debbie, who already had Davy and Amy. They
have one son together, Jacob. Steve hasn't married...yet.

I would like to say that I feel very fortunate to have graduated with the
Class of 1960. I feel I have very dear and lasting friends forever.
