After high school I attended UT, and after
graduating in engineering I went to work for
Mobil Oil Corporation. My work assignments
moved me to Dallas (twice), Little Rock, Corpus,
Houston (twice), Kansas City, New York City, and
finally to Fairfax, Va. when our Headquarters was
moved there from New York in 1980. The rest of
my career was at Fairfax where I held several
positions until I retired in 2000 after 34 years of
service.
Peggy and I married in 1992, the second
marriage for both of us. Peggy grew up in Joliet,
Illinois, and we first met 12 years earlier when
she had also worked for Mobil. She has a son,
Ryan, who now lives in Denver and loves it
there.
I have a daughter, Laural, who lives in
Fredericksburg, Va. with her husband Carl and
their two daughters. My son Brad (Richard to
the outside world) lives near Richmond, Va., and
he is getting married next February.
I have two beautiful, brilliant, and very different
granddaughters. AnnMarie is a sophomore at
Longwood Univ. in Virginia and is considering
transferring to UT (with just a little gentle
nudging from her grandfather). She is tall, dark
and rather quiet. Callie is still in high school,
and is shorter, blonde and everywhere at once.
She is at the golf course almost every day
preparing herself to make the golf team at TCU,
where she already tried to apply on-line when
she was twelve. Both, of course, easily wrap
“Pepaw” around their little finger.
Peggy keeps very busy with golf, volunteer work
and friends. I enjoy golf too, but spend as much
time as I can trying to learn art, something I was
always interested in but never made time for.
Retirement is a welcome luxury for us after the
fast pace of the corporate world; but, like
everyone else, it still seems there is an awful lot
that has to be worked into each day.
Peggy and I traveled quite a bit domestically and
overseas with my work, and have continued to
do so now that we are retired. We made a
conscious effort to take the most difficult trips
first just in case we start to slow down at some
point. Our traveling has been reduced some
now, but mainly because we bought a condo in
Georgetown, Texas a couple of years ago and
enjoy going there three or four times a year.
(paragraph split to print on another page)
We are now in the process of finding some land
in that general area so we can build and move
back “home” to a country place, and my Yankee
girl can become a Texan. That should not be
difficult because she really likes Georgetown-
and Texas actually does have golf courses.
Hopefully I can get the buying, building and
moving done by our 50th class reunion. But
regardless, I will be there to see all y’all, the
Good Lord willing.
Regards, George
