April 5, 2008. Gale's nine pages of hand-printed questionnaire, memories,
and jillions of photos arrived! I jumped up and down, yelled "Yee-ha!" and
called to thank her. Great to hear her voice---she is such a lovely person!
(And MAY be the "Mystery Woman." That has not yet been confirmed by
HER, though Beerwinkle is sure.) She'll send family photos later.
Gale was born one April 12 in Belton, and attended Tyler Elementary. After
high school graduation, she married Joe Cosper from Holland and they
raised their two children, Johnny Ray and Marty Jo, in Salado. Joe lost a
2-year battle with cancer in 1984. She stayed in Salado until the children
left home, then returned to Belton.
Gale worked as a bookkeeper for the Stagecoach Inn in Salado for 20
years, retiring in 2000. She worked for the Belton Independent School
District as a teachers aide for 6 years, retiring in May of 2007. She's now
adjusting to having free time---so far enjoying the freedom from schedule.
She writes, "My main interest is family. Sisters Jeannine, Mattie, and Rita,
then there's Dwayne (wife Jo Ann). We are all still in Belton. All four of us
girls are widows. The six of us have stayed close and talk just about every
day. Dwayne has recently gone through two cancer surgeries and is now
taking chemo, but doing good so far. Keep him in your prayers.
"I lost my dad in 1966. Mom passed away in 2006 at 99-1/2. Her health was
good until they found a mass a month earlier. Her mind was still very good
and she still walked on her own and was independent.
"I love to read almost everything. I do not care for TV much, but love a
good movie. I make greeting cards and am now working on scrapbooks
for the four grandchildren. I play "Bunco" with a group, like cards, and
belong to a "lunch bunch."
"I walk every day and have just started going to the gym for moderate
exercise---but NO, I don't wear the same size pants or anything else that I
did in 1960! Wish on! My health is good so far; being overweight is my
downfall.
"Travel has been limited to the U.S and Texas. I love to go to the coast.
"Now for the best part of my life: Joe and I had two children, Johnny Ray,
born June 28, 1966, and Marty Jo, born October 19, 1968.
"Johnny is a country boy at heart, so much like his father, always himself
no matter who he is with or where he's at. He worked in maintenance at
Wilson Art for 19 years; recently went to work in management for a
landscaping company. He is married to Kim (cousin to David B, but don't
hold that against her) who works as a payroll tech at McLane's.
"They have one son, Dylan, who goes to school in Moody. He is 13 and
plays sports, is in the band, and belongs to the Jr. F.F.A. He also ropes in
junior rodeos and has made a pretty good cowboy. Johnny and Kim raise
show goats and Dylan shows both goats and sheep in livestock shows.
"Marty Jo is a single parent to A.V., Joe, and Kyler. A.V.,18, will graduate
this May and plans on going to Temple College. He works at the restored
Beltonian Theater, and has been in football, choir, and broadcasting. Joe
is 14; golf, band, and video games are his favorites. Kyler, 13, is a
cheerleader, plays sports, and is in the band. All three are really into
music. Like their mother, they are real 'people-persons.'
"Marty Jo is an account executive for Texas Home Health. She is a very
out-going gal and never meets a stranger. She is known to take care of
everyone else before herself. She loves sports, dancing, and people.
"My children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren are my "Rocks." They
are my inspiration, my guardian angels, and, as you can see, the most
important things in my life. Even though I did not further my education, I
feel I have had a good life. Joe and I enjoyed a lot of good times. I was
able to stay home with my children. We enjoyed entertaining, camping,
hunting, fishing, water sports---whatever our children were involved in."
Gale will soon be getting a computer of her own and will enjoy getting into
e-mail. She'll see us all at the 50th!
