Carolyn's Page
Today, March 11, 2009, on Carolyn's 67th birthday, her grand-
daughter Kayla sent us Carolyn's questionnaire. What would we do
these days for tech help if it weren't for the younger generations?
Thanks, Kayla! Carolyn says:

I lived in the Belton area all my school years.  I started to school at
Ave D Elementary in Killeen, but moved to Belton, going to Tyler
Elementary and Southwest Elementary.

Some of my special friends were Lila Harrell and Skip Burrell.

Started working in Killeen as a secretary and payroll clerk on June
1, 1960. Worked there until I got married on Sept. 9, 1960.  I married
Doyle Lankford of Salado, and we were married for 43 years. He
passed away on April 9, 2004.

We had two children, a daughter, Regina and a son, Gregory.

Regina lives near Jarrell and works in Austin.  She has a son,
Joshua, 23, and a daughter, Kayla, 19, and a step-daughter, Shelby,
16. Shelby is a junior in high school. And now I have become a great
grandma!  Josh and wife, Heidi, had a baby boy on February 1, 2009.
Destry Dean weighed in at 6 lbs. 2oz., 19 inches long. Oh! He is so
beautiful!!!!!! Kayla is attending Temple College and getting a
degree in Animal Science. So proud of her.

Gregory lives near me and works for Bell County Road and Bridge.
He has three children. A daughter, Leah is 23 years old. She
graduated from Sam Houston State in May ‘08 and went to Kenya,
Africa, for two weeks as a missionary.  She now lives in Las Cruces,
NM, getting her Masters Degree in Animal Reproduction. I am so
proud of her. Katelyn is 16 and a junior in high school.  Cody is 14
and in the 8th grade.  Both are very active in sports and keep us on
the go.

My favorite interests were my kids and grandkids.  We all loved to
camp, fish, and hunt. We spent every chance we got camping and
fishing.  I have the most wonderful memories of all the first fish
stories, or the first booboo on the bike, or "she pushed me in the
water" stories. They are all priceless! I thank God for giving me all
the years with my husband, my children and grandkids.  I love them
so much. And I am still a big part of their lives and they are my life.

I started to work at Southwest Elementary as a volunteer.  Then was
asked to take an aide position. I loved the contact I had with the
children and advanced to working in the office. I loved it so much
that I completed 29 years being secretary and peims clerk to five
different principals before retiring. Oh, what a wild ride, but loved
it!!

Since I retired, I went on a cruise to Alaska with my two brothers
and their wives.  It was a wonderful experience and beautiful
country.  I would love to do it one more time.  I have also traveled
to several states, but the main experience was getting to spend
several days in Yellowstone National Park.  It was breath-taking to
me.  Oh, what beauty God has put here in his world for us to enjoy.
Then, last September, I went to Niagara Fall, Canada. We traveled
by bus and had a wonderful trip.  Just can’t say which one was more
beautiful, Yellowstone or Niagara.  Truly GOD’s work!! I do not have
any more trips planned at the moment but who knows what
tomorrow holds.  If anyone says lets go to ......, my bags are packed
and ready. HAHA!

As for now........

Yes, I retired on June 30, 2004, two months after my husband died.
We had so many plans to travel, just waiting until I could retire.  I
was going for 30 years.  Oh, how I wished I had retired sooner so
we could have traveled together, but I guess it wasn’t God’s plan.

For fun lately, I have a special friend in my life now. He and I have
been spending a lot of time together just getting to know each
other.  We love so much of the same things and enjoy going to
gospel, country/western, and bluegrass festivals.  Oh, don’t forget
all those ball games we go to so we can watch the grandkids play.
We both have grandkids in junior high and high school.

I’m not much of a reader, but I enjoy reading my Bible.  I also enjoy
some novels.  I love to spend time with my church friends and we
have a sewing circle that I love to go to and do different projects
and crafts.

Yes, I watch T.V.  I like the food network.  I love to watch Paula Deen’
s Programs.  I watch
Price is Right, The Rachel Ray Show, and all the
CSI shows, especially the CSI starring George Eads, our Belton Boy!

No, not doing any sports lately, but since I have two new knees, I
would love try bowling again.

Oh, how I wish I still wore the same size pants that I wore in high
school.

(Jan's note: Me, too, Carolyn!!! We look forward to seeing  you at
our 50th next year!)
