Our Prom Committee chose "Hawaii" as the theme
for the only prom we would ever have, the 1959
Junior-Senior Prom. The decorations committee
did a fine job of evoking a Hawaiian ambiance,
with anthuriums (which are thought of as Hawaiian
flowers, but which arrived in the islands via
England from the Andes) and birds of paradise.
Tables featured ti leaves and candles set in
pineapples. Hawaiian punch and cookies carried
on the theme.
Jan's note: The illustrations from my scrapbook
are intended to jog your memory a little. I
destroyed my own prom photo to keep my kids
from seeing it, ever! I attended with my future
husband, Bobby A., and had a wonderful time!
I actually pressed an
anthurium and a bird of
paradise and put them on a
scrapbook page, but they
don't look too good now!
Janean and Will, now married.
